Print Error Code 20 


Cause:  


This error occurs when Microsoft Word is attempting to print using the installed Encompass printer. It is an indication that there may be a problem with the Microsoft Word installation or the Encompass printer.  

 

 

We have found that when someone receives the Printer not activated, error code -20 message, it is a permission issue that can be fixed in the Windows registry
 
Resolution 1 (recommended): download and run the zip fix file  
 
1.    Control-Click to Download this zip file:  EncompassFiz.zip 
         a.    If prompted to confirm this file is from a trustworthy source, click OK  
         b.    Exit all programs 
         c.    Double click to unzip the folder, then double click the EncompassFix file 
                    i. If prompted, click Yes, Run or Continue to complete the process 
2.    The file will automatically create / update the necessary settings on your computer to resolve the issue 
3.    Restart your computer 

 

Resolution 2: manually update the Windows registry 


1.    In Windows 10, type regedit in the Search box on the taskbar and press Enter
            a.    If prompted by User Account Control, click Yes to open the Registry Editor. 
            b.    The Windows Registry Editor window should open and look similar to the example shown below: 

 

 

2.    Click on the arrows to the left of HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG, then Software 
3.    Click on the Encompass folder 
         a.    Note: If the Encompass folder is not there, you will need to add it: 
                  i.    Right-click on the Software folder 
                  ii.    Select New > Key to create a new folder named ‘New Key #1’ iii. Right-click on the new folder and rename it ‘Encompass’ 

 

 

4.    Right click on the Encompass folder and select permissions

5. Click Add  
6.    Type ‘Everyone’ in the Enter the object names to select field, then click OK 

 

 

7.    Under Permissions for Everyone, check Allow for Full Control and click OK  

 

8.    Restart your computer
